The Walton-Verona Bearcats (10-3 overall) earned a trip back to the All “A” 8th Region title game Saturday with a sound 86-47 win over the Eminence Warriors (7-6) at Gallatin County.

The Bearcats had 10 different players score, led by 22 apiece from senior Carter Krohman and sophomore Aaron Gutman. Junior Julian Dixon added 12. Dixon also had a team-high eight rebounds.

Walton-Verona takes on Owen County (8-4) on Saturday at 5 p.m. back at Gallatin County for the All “A” region title.

Campbell County 83, Augusta 69

In the Camels victory Wednesday night in Augusta, coach Aric Russell tied L.E. Woolum for most wins in school history at 271 in his 13th season with the program.

Campbell County (9-5) got a balanced effort in the win, six different players scoring at least nine points led by Aydan Hamilton’s 19. Nathan Smith scored 15, Jake Gross 14, Jaidan Combs 11 and Keegan Hill and Connor Weinel with nine against the host Panthers (7-5).

Russell now has 446 wins in his career, just 14 off from the NKY record of Ken Shields 460, who coached at St. Thomas and Highlands.

Russell will go for the program wins record on Friday at Conner in a 7:30 p.m. tip.

Cooper 62, Holmes 30

Cooper (continues to stifle the opponent. Over their last six games in which they’re 5-1, the Jaguars have allowed 42.5 points per game and holding Holmes to 30 on Wednesday night.

The Jaguars are now allowing 48.3 points per game, good for a tie for seventh in the state. In the victory over the Bulldogs, 12 different players entered the scoring column led by Gavin Lutz with nine. The Jags dominated the rebounding battle 46-18.

Holmes (0-10) was paced by Adam Boone’s nine points as they still search for their first victory of the season. They’ll try again on Friday when they host Lloyd Memorial at 7:30 p.m.

Cooper looks to make it six of seven when they play at Grant County on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

All “A” Girls 9th Region Quarterfinals at Beechwood

Ludlow 67, Newport 52

Thanks to an efficient night from the field, Ludlow is headed to the 9th Region All “A” semifinals with a 15-point victory over host Newport on Wednesday night.

The Panthers (7-7) shot 51 percent from the field and had four players reach double figures led by Mylee Garrett’s 22 points. Prestyn King followed with 17 points, Ava Hoffmeister adding 16 and Addy Garrett tossing in 10. Hoffmeister pulled down 13 rebounds, Mylee Garrett grabbing nine boards, Ludlow winning the rebounding battle 38-18.

Newport (3-6) was led by Kaylen Perry with 15 points, Elexis Litton adding 13. The Wildcats hit 17-of-23 free throws in the contest.

Ludlow faces Bellevue in Friday’s semifinals at 7:45 p.m. The first semifinal matchup is Holy Cross vs. St. Henry at 6 p.m.
