Candidate for Campbell County Property Valuation Administrator
I decided to run for Campbell County Property Valuation Administrator after learning of controversies involving the current PVA, Daniel Braun.
I view this election as an opportunity to offer Campbell County residents a candidate who will not tolerate self-serving transactions in the PVA office. The 60% reduction in the assessment on Daniel Braun’s personal residence from $312,000 to $125,000, the reduction of the value of the LaFarge property in Silver Grove from $86 million to $28 million (causing financial strain on Silver Grove residents and school system), the pattern of PVA employees getting reductions in assessments on their own homes, as well as the curious reduction in the assessment on real estate owned by Daniel Braun’s father in 2013, are just a few of the concerning transactions under Daniel Braun’s leadership.
When in office I will also ensure that PVA staff are challenged to obtain new levels of training. Just because staff may have been employed for over a decade does not mean they have been trained rigorously over that decade. The fact that Daniel Braun did not use a member of his own staff to complete the assessment of the LaFarge complex when it was sold to Continental in 2013, and allowed the company to determine its own assessment which the PVA office refuses to make public, indicates there must be a lack of qualified corporate assessors on staff in the PVA office. I intend to rectify this and have my staff complete the assessment of the LaFarge complex so it is accurate and a matter of public record. I also intend to nominate qualified corporate real estate agents to serve on the board of appeals so fewer corporate assessments in Campbell County are sent to Frankfort to have that work completed.
Finally, I will upgrade the public face of the PVA office by improving the PVA website. With just one peek at the PVA websites for Jessamine County or Boone County it is apparent we are currently offered a “bare bones” website. The website I envision will allow the public access to data on county assessments and trends over many years, links to important forms, as well as helpful information on tangible and motor vehicle taxes.
I bring a broad professional background to the table, from being an attorney for the last nine years, to previously working in the health insurance industry, running my own small business, and teaching college students. I have over twenty-five years of experience in building relationships between service providers and clients and project management. In addition to my professional work, I also serve the community as a member of the Board of Directors of Evergreen Cemetery. I am currently organizing a local volunteer effort to revitalize Evergreen Cemetery, called the Friends of Evergreen Cemetery. I served on the Newport Board of Education for almost eight years, and have been a literacy tutor. I am a member of the Johnson Elementary PTO, as well as a member of the Hearing Loss Association of America. I live in Fort Thomas with my daughter, Hanna, and my son, Patrick. I look forward to serving Campbell County as the next Property Valuation Administrator and would be honored to get your vote.
