Erlanger has opened applications for its Public Safety Academy, which offers an inside look into the city’s public safety operations for police, fire and EMS.

“This nine-week program offers residents an inside look at the daily work of our police officers and firefighters through hands-on demonstrations, educational sessions and behind-the-scenes experiences,” according to a city announcement. “Each class features new topics and opportunities to learn directly from the professionals who keep our community safe.”

Residents who complete the program get CPR certification and an official diploma. The academy is open to all Erlanger residents. All applicants are subject to a background check.

Erlanger is unusual in the region as it has a combined Department of Public Safety, which administers both the police and fire units under one umbrella. This allows the two departments to share training resources. The city’s current Director of Public Safety is Kyle Rader, who formerly served as the city’s police chief.

Learn more and apply to join the academy by filling out the city’s online contact form here.
