The Conner girls have turned things around recently.
They won their third straight with a sound 70-48 road win at Campbell County. Anna Hamilton led the charge making three 3-pointers and 7-of-8 free throws on her way to 24 points. Senior Aubree Depenbrock broke out to score 19 points and Payton Gutzwiller scored nine.
Izzy Jayasuriya and Alli Collins led Campbell County with 10 points each and Madeline Barbian scored eight.
Conner (5-9) plays Green County in the Simpson’s Tree Service/H+W Sports Classic on Saturday at Franklin County at 3:15 p.m.
Campbell County (10-3) travels to Harrison County on Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. game.
Scott 62, Bracken County 48
The Eagles bounced back from the loss at Simon Kenton with a 10th Region home win.
Scott once again had balanced scoring in the win. Noelle Price led the way scoring 15 with Kaia Peterson and Nakiah Mejia scoring 14 and 10, respectively. Ariana Patterson nearly joined the three in double figures with nine points.
Scott (11-3) travels to Fleming County on Tuesday at 7:45 p.m.
Lloyd Memorial 56, Pendleton County 31
Sierra McCoin made four three-pointers on her way to 16 points to lead the Juggernauts to the non-region win.
Mya Holden scored 12 points and Keirstyn Young scored nine as Lloyd snapped a two-game losing streak.
Lloyd Memorial (4-8) travels to Frankfort on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
9th Region All “A” Semifinals
Holy Cross 51, Beechwood 9
The defending All “A” state champs had 10 different players score in the convincing win at Newport Central Catholic.
Julia Hunt led Holy Cross (10-4) with 13 points and Miyah Wimzie scored 12. The Indians take on the host Newport Central Catholic in the championship game on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Beechwood (5-8) did not see any player score more than four points. The Tigers host Bellevue on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Newport Central Catholic 81, Ludlow 44
The hosts dominated their way into the title game.
Caroline Eaglin once again led the Thoroughbreds with 21 points. Madison McFarland and Brooklyn Cole followed with 16 and 12 points, respectively. Alaina Albrinck and Delaney Green scored nine each helping NewCath (9-3) to a sixth straight win.
Addy Garrett led Ludlow (8-7) with 14 points. The Panthers host Dayton on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
All “A” 10th Region Tournament
Nicholas County 53, Bishop Brossart 40
The Mustangs lost in the first round of the tournament unable to win the second meeting between the two.
Brossart shot just 28% from the field and made 7-of-16 free throws. They led 26-22 at the half, but a three-point third quarter did them in, outscored 17-3 in the frame.
Rachel Shewmaker led Brossart with 10 points.
The Mustangs do not play again until Jan. 16 at Boone County at 7:30 p.m.
Other Girls Basketball Scores
All “A” 8th Region Semifinal
Walton-Verona 68, Eminence 29
The Bearcats (8-7) will face Gallatin County in the 8th Region All “A” championship on Saturday at home at 8 p.m.
Walton-Verona is looking for their fifth regional All “A” title since 2018. They won four in a row from 2018-21. Gallatin County last won in 2015.
Boys Basketball
Covington Catholic 63, Beechwood 24
The Colonels doubled up the Tigers, 42-21 in rebounding on its way to the convincing 35th District seed win as they recognized the 2014 state championship team at halftime.
Noah Johnson led CovCath with 11 points and Caden Miller had 10 points seven rebounds. Cash Harney and Brady Hussey scored nine each.
Jack Sullivan led Beechwood with seven points.
CovCath (10-4) has won three in a row. The Colonels travel to Conner on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game.
Beechwood (6-6) has lost three in a row. The Tigers host Newport Central Catholic on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Scott 66, Pendleton County 50
The Eagles won their second straight in the 10th Region road victory.
Conner Griffen posted a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds in the win. Jon Evans added six assists as Scott shot 55% from field.
Scott (8-7) returns to action on Tuesday at Harrison County at 7:30 p.m.
10th Region All “A” First Round
Nicholas County 57, Bishop Brossart 43
The struggles continued for the Mustangs in the early exit from the tournament.
Ben Doyle led the Mustangs with 15 points.
Brossart (3-10) has lost eight in a row. The Mustangs host Ludlow on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
