The Campbell County Camels football team (2-3 overall) downed the Conner Cougars (1-4) by a 21-7 score at home to snap a three-game losing streak and double the win total from last year.

Junior running back Joseph Amato rushed for 102 yards on 19 carries and senior running back Ayden Bauwens rushed for 95 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns. Senior Keegan Hill completed 6 of 11 passes for 72 yards.

Sophomore linebacker Aiden Dowds had seven tackles and junior linebacker Hunter Wiseman had two tackles for a loss. Senior defensive lineman Cody Mershon had two sacks.

“The defense played great. They held up when they needed to and stopped the drives,” said Brian Weinrich, Campbell County Head Coach. “The offensive line played great. They’re really coming together and working hard. It felt like we could call any running play we needed to and be successful.”

The Camels held Conner to just 125 yards of total offense. Senior defensive back Tristan Wilson had four catches for 28 yards and one touchdown.

Conner plays host to Boone County (3-2) on Friday at 7 p.m.

Carroll County 20, Ludlow 6

Ludlow (2-2) could not contain the rush from the Carroll County (2-3) attack in a battle of the Panthers.

Carroll County outgained Ludlow, 275-129 in total offense including a 235-90 advantage on the ground with 17 first downs to seven for Ludlow. Both teams had two turnovers.

Ludlow plays host to Bishop Brossart on Friday at 7 p.m.

Sayre 14, Dayton 6

Sayre spoiled the fun at the Greendevils’ home stadium. Dayton falls to 2-3 on the season and welcomes Bracken Co. to town next week.

Scott 50, Grant County 8

The Eagles (2-3) downed the Braves (0-5) in non-district action outgaining them, 345-126 in total offense. Senior Bennie Hill rushed for 150 yards on nine attempts and three touchdowns.

Senior Dasani Lane completed 6 of 9 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns. Junior Dylan Giffen had three catches for 70 yards and one touchdown with senior Nolan Hunter catching two passes for 58 yards.

Scott travels to Rowan County for a 7:30 p.m. game Friday.

Newport Central Catholic 49, Holy Cross 21

The Thoroughbreds (4-1) won their fourth in a row with win over the Indians (1-4) outgaining them, 520-370 in total offense including a 351-69 advantage on the ground.

Junior Demetrick Welch ran for 162 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown and senior running back Luke Runyon had 122 yards on eight carries and three touchdowns. Sophomore Kaleb Cole ran for 51 yards on four carries and two touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Matthew Landrum had four catches for 87 yards and a touchdown.

Junior Donovan Ambrocio completed 16 of 31 passes for 301 yards, one touchdown and one interception for Holy Cross. Junior Landyn Phillips had eight catches for 164 yards. Junior Javier Ward had four catches for 110 yards.

NewCath takes on Newport on Friday at 7 p.m. Holy Cross takes on Holmes at Thomas More on Friday at 7 p.m.

Gallatin County 49, Bellevue 6

The Tigers continue to search for their first win of the season, falling to 0-5 after losing on the road at Gallatin Co. Bellevue returns home on Sept. 30 after four weeks away when Newport visits after next week’s bye.

Cincinnati College Prep Academy 30, Newport 22

Newport has dropped two games in a row decided by one score. The Wildcats are 2-3 on the year and play rival Newport Central Catholic next week.

Boone County 35, Walton-Verona 24

The Rebels snapped a two-game losing streak and now the Bearcats are in the midst of one. Both teams are 3-2 on the year. Next week, Boone Co. plays at Conner while Walton welcomes Gallatin Co.

Volleyball

All A State Tournament

The Holy Cross Indians (17-2 overall) won both their Pool C games at Eastern Kentucky University knocking off Paducah Community Christian, 2-0 (25-9, 26-24) then Trinity Christian of Lexington, 2-0 (25-16, 25-12).

Holy Cross had 51 kills, 14 aces, 40 assists and 38 digs as a team. Junior Julia Hunt had 33 kills and senior setter Maya Hunt had 39 assists. Senior outside hitter Rylee Hood had 12 digs and five aces with senior defensive specialist Natalie Bessler recording 10 digs and three aces.

Bishop Brossart (9-6) finished 1-1 in Pool C play beating Trinity Christian, 2-0 (25-23, 25-23) before losing 2-0 (26-24, 25-15). Bishop Brossart and Holy Cross play at 9:15 a.m. Saturday to complete Pool C play.
