The Kentucky League of Cities, a nonprofit organization dedicated to city management and improvement, has issued a 2022 Liability Grant to the city of Crescent Springs in Kenton County.
The city intends to use the funds from the grant to improve the sidewalks and apron that serve as the entrance and exit to the city building. The grant will also enable the city to bring the same area closer to standards set by the American Disabilities Act, federal legislation that allows for accommodations for people with disabilities.
Crescent Springs Mayor Mike Daugherty is quoted in the release, thankful for the improvements it will bring.
“‘The replacement work will ensure that our sidewalk and apron are safer and more accessible to everyone in the city, whether they are walking or driving,'” the mayor said. “‘We are always looking for ways to bring the most benefit to our citizens while still being fiscally conservative and responsible with taxpayer money.'”
The KLC offers liability insurance to its member cities and issues liability grants to several members every year to fund projects that reduce the cities’ liability. The grants are often used to fund infrastructure repair and improvement, provide training or fund other essential services so that KLC would be less likely to have to pay out if something catastrophic happens.
The city of Silver Grove is another nearby recipient of the same grant.
The Liability Grant is a 50/50 matching grant, meaning that recipients must cover half of the expenses associated with a project before they can be issued the funds.
Usually, this entails the reporting of transactions and receipts for associated expenses. According to a press release from the league, “KLC has awarded more than $5.5 million in liability and safety grants since 1999.”
