Covington Catholic 41, Central 14
Covington Catholic rushed for 235 yards in the victory as Kiyan Miller ran for four touchdowns. Dylan Courtney threw two touchdown passes, one to Brandon Smith, the other to Jamir Kirtley.
The Colonels (4-2) have a showdown with Highlands at home next week.
Highlands 78, Harrison County 6
The Bluebirds opened Class 4A, District 5 play in historic fashion, scoring the most points by any team in a game against Harrison County.
With 1:26 left in the first quarter, Highlands had already triggered a running clock following a 13-yard touchdown pass from Bryce Armstrong to Ben Brown. The Bluebirds led 57-0 at halftime and 71-0 after three quarters.
Armstrong threw a touchdown pass on Highlands’ first offensive play and finished 6-of-9 passing for 91 yards and four touchdowns. He also added a 51-yard touchdown run.
Tayden Lorenzen carried three times for 46 yards, while Chase Jacob led the Bluebirds with two receptions for 53 yards. Brown, Jacob, Michael Tincher and Griffin Benke each caught a touchdown pass from Armstrong.
Highlands’ defense forced four turnovers and added a safety by Griffin Benke. Cooper Benke and Grant Dadosky recovered fumbles, while Quinton Simon returned two interceptions for touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown. The Bluebirds held Harrison County to 31 total yards, including minus-33 rushing.
Holmes 20, Jackson County 6
Officials called this game with 10:27 left in the third quarter due to numerous ejections from a fight that broke out.
It gives Holmes (1-4) their first win of the season and the first under head coach Emanuel Golsby.
Lloyd Memorial 35, Pendleton County 12 (Thursday)
The Juggernauts (6-0) got this one to a running clock in the second quarter as they opened district play with a win and extended their regular season winning streak to 18 games.
Lloyd rushed for 207 yards in the contest as Colten Barger ran for two touchdowns, Isaiah Jones and Demareon Peterson one apiece. Peterson also had a receiving touchdown.
Lloyd’s defense tallied three sacks and seven tackles for loss, recovered a fumble and blocked a punt.
Lloyd heads to Bourbon County next week in another important district matchup.
Beechwood 63, Owen County 0
Nathan Pabst continued his touchdown frenzy as he scored three in the first half, doing it on the ground, through the air and on special teams.
It marked Pabst’s eighth touchdown in the last six quarters of play as Beechwood rolled to a 56-0 halftime advantage in Owenton. Pabst has 15 touchdowns on the season through five games, nine receiving, four rushing and two kickoff returns.
Tyler Fryman added a 23-yard interception return for a score, as did Colin Ritter from 31 yards out. Bo Sowder and Garrison Wilson punched in touchdown runs in the blowout. Emmett Queen threw two touchdown passes, giving him 10 for the season.
Beechwood (5-0) looks to keep rolling next week at home against Walton-Verona.
