The Kentucky League of Cities (KLC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to city management and improvement, recently issued a 2022 Liability Grant to the city of Silver Grove in Campbell County.

The city intends to use the funds from the grant to trim excessive tree growth around electrical substations. The Kentucky League of Cities announced the grant through a press release, but did not disclose the amount the city was awarded.

The KLC issues liability grants to several cities in Kentucky every year to fund projects that reduce the cities’ insurance liability. In addition to advocating for best practices when it comes to city management, the league offers property, liability and workers’ compensation insurance to member cities.

To that end, grants like this exist to help cities improve infrastructure, provide training or fund other essential services so that KLC would be less likely to have to pay out if something catastrophic happens to one of its members.

The Liability Grant is a 50/50 matching grant, meaning that recipients must cover half of the expenses associated with a project before they can be issued the funds.

Usually, this entails the reporting of transactions and receipts for associated expenses. According to a press release from the league, “KLC has awarded more than $5.5 million in liability and safety grants since 1999.”
