The LINK nky Team of the Week for Sept. 14-20 presented by Ortho Cincy is the Cooper girls soccer team.
A bonus for the Cooper girls soccer team is that they are now eligible for Team of the Season (TOS) for the fall sports season. The weekly nominations and winners for fall will run in to November. St. Henry boys soccer was the first winner for fall, Calvary Christian boys soccer the second, Holy Cross volleyball the third, Conner football the fourth and now Cooper girls soccer.
A vote will follow for TOS when the fall sports season is wrapped up to determine the winner. The winner for TOS will then be one of three nominees for Team of the Year (TOY) voting in June. Each TOS winner will receive a $500 scholarship that will go to an athlete of their choice.
For the team that is awarded TOY, online and print articles will again be published, a large commemorative plaque will be presented and the school will receive an additional $500 scholarship to be presented to the athlete of their choice at the end of the school year. The call for nominations, voting and winning announcement for each will follow the same format as the TOTW.
Cooper Girls Soccer
Secured wins over St. Henry and Conner last week to improve their record to 4-4-2 on the season.
The team has been led by Olivia Haswell and Hayden Johnson in the scoring department with nine and seven goals, respectively. Lyna Ewell leads the team in assists with four while also scoring five goals. Aelynn Adams is the primary goalkeeper, in 12 games, she’s made 78 saves with three shutouts.
Cooper currently sits at 7-6-2 on the season. They return to action Wednesday against Simon Kenton.
