Fort Mitchell City Council voted to join the proposed statewide mutual aid agreement at their Sept. 15 meeting, along with Fort Wright, Park Hills, Edgewood and Independence.

“This is a standard agreement,” City Administrator Edwin King said to council. “This is something we’ve already done and you’ve already seen. It just needs to be formalized.”

Fort Mitchell offered far-reaching mutual aid this past May. Firefighters from the Fort Mitchell Fire Department went to southern Kentucky to help with tornado relief and rescue work.

The statewide mutual aid agreement recommended by Kentucky League of Cities ensures that firefighters and their cities will be paid for their time and equipment in the event of another disaster.

Council voted unanimously in favor of the resolution for the agreement.
