Fort Wright voted to join the statewide mutual disaster aid agreement recommended by the Kentucky League of Cities.

Under this agreement, municipalities across Kentucky can come to each other’s aid during disasters, such as this year’s floods and tornadoes.

“It’s kind of a no-brainer in my mind,” Fort Wright Mayor Dave Hatter said.

It was an easy decision for council as well. They passed the resolution unanimously. LINK asked Fort Wright City Administrator Jill Cain Bailey what this agreement does for Fort Wright, practically.

“A lot of this is about covering expenses,” Bailey said. “When we send people down to help with flood relief or policing, this agreement works for us to be reimbursed.”

Fort Wright is not a city that faces many disasters. So this agreement mostly functions so they help other places in the commonwealth where disasters are more common, and pay the people doing the work.

Fort Wright is one of many Northern Kentucky municipalities to join this agreement, including Park Hills, Edgewood and Independence.
