Newport residents will be able to leave feedback on the proposed Saratoga Street Bikeway this week at the Newport Branch of the Campbell County Library.
The trail, a joint effort from the City of Newport and Tri-State Trails, will go from the Purple People Bridge into the city center without mixing with car traffic. Online surveys are also available for people to fill out if they’re unable to attend the meeting.
“With an average of nearly 1,900 uses a day in 2023, the Purple People Bridge is the most frequently used trail facility in the Tri-State,” said Wade Johnston, executive director of Tri-State Trails, in a press release “This project aims to capitalize on that momentum by extending a safe bicycling connection into Newport that complements the bridge as an iconic regional connection.”
The project will host an open house on Aug. 6, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Newport library branch on 6th Street. The open house will present three design alternatives for the public to examine and provide an opportunity for residents to leave feedback on the project. An overview presentation on the project will occur at 6:30 p.m.
