Over 30 of Southgate’s Woodland Hills Condominiums residents have been asked to temporarily relocate due to hillside slippage in the area.

Sanitation District No. 1 of Northern Kentucky has been working on a sanitary sewer upsizing project near the affected area, as LINK nky content partner WCPO reported. According to WCPO, on July 26, residents received a letter from an attorney representing their homeowners association notifying them of the shifting hillside.

“The excavation and construction work potentially caused a shifting in the hillside, which has caused the recent cracks and other issues in the building,” reads the letter, signed by Tyler C. Arnzen. “The Association has been working with SD1 to monitor these ongoing changes with the ultimate goal of repairing any damage that has occurred to Building 30.”

According to a Woodland Hills resident, buildings 28, 30 and 32, each containing 12 units, are affected by the hillside slippage. The condominium complex is located at 1 Woodland Hills Drive in Southgate.

Sanitation District No. 1, also known as SD1, released a statement stating that it has met with representatives of the Woodland Hills Homeowners Association and agreed to a relocation plan for residents of condominiums impacted by hillside slippage in the area.

“The safety of the residents continues to be our top priority, and we are tailoring our plan to the individual needs of the residents, taking into consideration family size, pets, ADA needs, convenience, etc.”

The statement also said that SD1 and the homeowners association are retaining a third-party relocation specialist, who will personally contact each resident beginning today, July 29, to assess their individual circumstances. Once they have identified the residents’ needs, SD1 and the HOA said they “will work together to ensure all residents have an opportunity to relocate without facing a financial hardship.”

“While we do not know exactly how long it will take for the residents to safely return, SD1 and the HOA will work to find the most effective and efficient solution and will keep residents updated about the timeline as details become available.”

Relocation calls will begin today. SD1 is encouraging residents to answer calls from unknown numbers until they are able to make contact with everyone impacted.

This is an ongoing story. LINK nky will update it as more information becomes available.
