On July 3, the Newport Blast Fireworks and Drone Display will take place on the Ohio River in Newport. Between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m., a US Coast Guard Patrol Command will be established.
All mariners and recreational vessels are urged to use caution and maintain a proper lookout. There will be a “special local regulation” for commercial traffic established between Ohio River mile markers 469.0 to 471.0 and the Licking River mile markers 0.0 to 0.5 between the hours of 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. Contact US Coast Guard Patrol Command on Marine Radio Channel 13 for entrance into this special local regulation.
For all recreational and commercial traffic, there will be a “safety zone” or river closure between 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on the Ohio River between the Taylor Southgate Bridge and the Purple People Bridge. During this time, no vessels will be authorized to move between the bridges unless approved by the US Coast Guard Patrol Command via Marine Radio Channel 13.
Recreational vessels will not be allowed to anchor in the safety zone on July 3 between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. All anchorage must be done upriver of the Purple People Bridge or downriver of the Taylor Southgate Bridge, out of the channel and away from commercial docks.
There will be local and federal first responder vessels on patrol during the event and available if assistance is required.
