Barbara Farrow was appointed as a member of Walton City Council at a meeting Tuesday evening.

This is not Farrow’s first time serving on council; The 30-year Walton resident served a two-year term from 2019 to 2020. She currently serves on the city’s board of adjustments.

Farrow fills a vacancy on the council created by former councilmember Terri Courtney’s appointment to mayor. Her advancement to the role followed the resignation of former Mayor Gabe Brown, who stepped down amid an investigation into his conduct as mayor, which alleged misuse of city property and money.

Farrow will serve on the council until the upcoming November election, when Walton voters will elect council members themselves. There are six people registered on the ballot for the six-person council: current councilmembers Rose Beach, Amy Long, Sherri Gaskill, Dan Martin and Matt Brown, as well as Caleb Flege, Courtney’s nephew. Farrow is not on the ballot.

Additionally, Courtney and Brown will face off for the mayor’s seat, as the former mayor has decided to run for another term.

As Farrow has been accepted onto the council, she will have to step down from her role on the city’s board of adjustments. According to Courtney, the city will be looking to fill vacancies on the board of adjustments, the code enforcement board, and the planning and zoning commission. Those interested in applying for vacancies can find more information on the city website.
