The city of Highland Heights received the “healthier environment” award on behalf of the Kentucky Agency for Substance Abuse Policy, known as ASAP, at Tuesday night’s city council meeting.
ASAP’s mission is to develop a long-term strategy for reducing youth and adult smoking and tobacco addictions, reducing incidence and substance abuse, and promoting effective treatment for substance abuse across eight counties in Northern Kentucky and the Commonwealth.
Stephanie Vogel, director of population health for the Northern Kentucky Health Department, presented the award to the city for their smoking ban that was put in place last spring.
“We certainly appreciate all the work that [the city] has done, the support from the community members and taking that progressive look at your community and making that change,” Vogel said.
