The next feather in the cap of downtown Covington’s renaissance may be the Bradford Building.

As Covington’s urban resurgence continues through the redevelopment of its historic building stock, the next project involves a connection to one of the city’s most prominent historic figures, too.

The Bradford on Scott, LLC, purchased the building at 326-336 Scott Boulevard. That LLC is owned by the Catalytic Fund, the organization that has spearheaded, planned, and helped provide financing for some of Northern Kentucky’s most important urban redevelopment projects, including the neighboring Boone Block – where 9 luxury townhomes now stand.

According to Jeanne Schroer, president and CEO of the Catalytic Fund, the purchase represents the first step in the process of executing the restoration and adaptive reuse of the building.

“This may be a complex and time consuming process so we ask that the community be patient as we assemble the plans and financing necessary to execute a quality development project”, said Schroer.
 
Further details about any potential project were not released.

“We had the opportunity to acquire the property and wanted to obtain site control to ensure that quality development occur in this key location in Covington,” Schroer said. “We also wanted to stabilize and secure the building to prevent further deterioration of this historic asset.”

The building was named after Bradford Shinkle, Covington’s wealthiest resident at the time of his death in 1909. He is the son of Amos Shinkle, the wealthy businessman and philanthropist who was instrumental in developing several lasting Covington projects, including the Roebling Suspension Bridge and the Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky in Devou Park.
 
 
The building has been abandoned for years, and most recently housed a strip club and a restaurant.
