The Boy Scouts of America will host a dinner event on April 21 at The Madison Event Center to raise awareness about the impact scouting has on the community and to recognize Covington businessman Guy van Rooyen.

The event, known as The Golden Eagle Dinner, is an initiative designed to educate the public about The Boy Scouts of America and to expand current scouting programs in the Northern Kentucky region.

“We believe that the scouting program can be a crucial tool in fighting the growing drug epidemic that faces this community,” said Shawn Marler, district director of The Boy Scouts of America Dan Beard Council. “This event will allow local business owners to experience the impact of scouting through first-hand accounts.”

The dinner is being held in collaboration with The Salyers Group, an investment company that holds real estate, retail, and entertainment assets in Covington, including the Hotel Covington, Mutual Insurance Building, and Doctors’ Building redevelopment projects that are currently underway in the city.

At the dinner, The Boy Scouts will present “The Golden Eagle Award” to Guy van Rooyen, president of The Salyers Group, for his community outreach and philanthropic spirit in Covington.

“I am immensely honored to be recognized by this important organization whose primary goal is to develop boys and young men into future community leaders,” van Rooyen said.

“This award means so much, given our company’s focus to be a leader in the Covington community and through our redevelopment projects, we seek to help this city that we love, achieve the potential that we have always known was bubbling within!”
