Boone County’s 911 service is back online after experiencing power outages following a tornado that touched down in Florence overnight, leaving several homes and businesses damaged.

Boone County announced that its 911 service and the county’s non-emergency hotline, (859) 371-1234, were back online as of 10 a.m. today. During the outage, 911 calls were routed to Kenton County for handling.

“A special thanks to our partners in Kenton County for stepping in to help manage emergency calls while Boone County’s 911 system was down, and to our own dispatchers who quickly adapted to ensure first responders could continue serving residents without interruption,” Boone County Judge/Executive Gary Moore said in a news release. “Strong partnerships and dedicated public services make all the difference during emergencies, helping us keep residents safe when they need us most.”

Boone County officials are advising residents to call 911 only for urgent, life-safety emergencies. For non-emergency issues, including flooded or blocked roadways, Boone County’s non-emergency line can be reached at the aforementioned number.

  • Animal-related concerns should be reported to Boone County Animal Control at (859) 334-8437.
  • Duke Energy advises residents to call 911 or 1 (800) 543-5599 to report fallen power lines, and 911 or 1 (800) 634-4300 for natural gas emergencies.
