The Highlands Dance Team has had a astronomic start to its first ten years in existence. They have added another state title this year, to previous years in 2012 and 2014.

After winning the state championship in the Pom Division this year, the team moved onto Orlando, Florida to compete in the National Dance Alliance (NDA) National Championship. They placed 11th in Nation in both Pom and Hip Hop.

Head Coach, Erin Janson, said the team’s performance at Nationals was outstanding.

The team competed against nearly 30 teams across the  division and this year marked their fourth year competing in the competition.

Janson said the team was competing against nine teams in pom and 17 in hip hop. To qualify for state they had to place first or second at the regional competition in Mason County.

“We placed first and also won the title of Grand Champions at this competition. I am very proud of how hard the girls have worked this year and how well they are performing at competition. They are an amazing group of smart, talented, and hard working girls,” she said.

The team, which started in 2006 with one team of 15 dancers, has since grown to three teams (Middle School, JV, and Varsity) totaling more than 60 dancers and compete at the regional, state, and national level each year.
