ArtsWave Pride, a donor affinity group within ArtsWave, will dedicate its first-ever commissioned mural in Covington on Wednesday.
The new mural, “Every Day of Living Is a Gift,” is located on the back of Madison Design on Madison Avenue in Covington. It honors the life of Terry Noel, a Kentucky native and trans/drag performer active in the 1950s and 1960s. The commission also celebrates the 10th anniversary of ArtsWave Pride’s mission of bringing the Tri-State region’s LGBTQIA+ people and allies together to support the arts.
“At Madison, we strongly believe in artists and creative expression,” said Jackie Roberto, partner at Madison Design. “We’re excited to be a part of Covington’s commitment to public art and placemaking.”
ArtsWave Pride will hold a public celebration at Madison Design on 515 Madison Avenue in Covington from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
The event will feature mingling time for attendees and statements from people involved in the project, including the artist, Emil Wiersma. Tours of Madison Design and a history lesson from Jacob Hogue, author of “Cincinnati Before Stonewall,” will follow. Hogue will also discuss Noel’s life and the inspiration behind the mural.
The event is open to the public.
