There is a new addition to the Devou Backcountry Trails, the system in Covington’s large urban park designed for bikers and hikers.
Organizers announced last week that the Trails of Sleepy Hollow are now open.
The trail system is built for self-propelled activities such as hiking, trail running, mountain boarding, and off-road cycling. Over four years of collaboration later, the trail expansion project has added ten more miles of new trails.
The latest addition is presented by the City of Covington, the Devou Park Advisory Committee, and the Greater Cincinnati Off-Road Alliance and is located on the east side of Sleepy Hollow Road on the edge of Devou Park. The area is approximately 80 acres and prior to the Devou Golf Course expansion from nine holes to eighteen, Montague Road traversed through this area.
The Trails of Sleepy Hollow includes The Goat Path which offers old school goodness, organizers said in a news release, as you will find roots, rocks, and some log overs.
This trail has been around for years in some form or fashion and this year it was officially adopted into the Devou Park Trail Expansion Project. The trail was built to be “bike-optimized”, the news release said. The system now includes: The Old Montague Road Trail, a road to trail conversion with Honeysuckle remediation; The Benny Vastine Nature Trail, which was an established nature trail; and The Full Monty Trail, completed in 2012.
Organizers plan to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony during the annual Backcountry Bonanza in mid-October. Visit www.devouparktrails.com for more information.
