Newport Central Catholic High School junior Hailey Ryan was selected to represent NewCath in the Kentucky Governor’s Scholar Program this summer.
This five-week study program provides academic and personal growth in a non-traditional experience at Centre College, Morehead State University or Murray State University.
Students were selected based on test scores from the PSAT, SAT or ACT, unweighted GPA, and difficulty of course load. Additionally, students must submit a writing entry and demonstrate what they have done in the areas of extracurricular activities, community service and honors and awards.
“Being chosen for the Governor’s Scholar Program, one of Kentucky’s top student awards, is quite an accomplishment,” NewCath Principal Kenny Collopy said. “It requires long hours of schoolwork, extracurriculars, community service, and applying for the program. Thousands of highly qualified juniors from across the state of Kentucky apply each year, and the competition is fierce. We are proud to recognize Hailey and congratulate her on her acceptance into this distinguished program; she truly deserves and has earned this opportunity.”
Ryan is the daughter of Maureen and Chris Ryan of St. Catherine Parish.
Additionally, Junior Maura Franzen, daughter of Lauren and Jeff Franzen of St. Joseph parish was chosen as an alternate.
