A 30-year prison sentence was handed down today to a 17-year old boy, convicted of killing Dreshawn Hammond, 16, in the summer of 2011. Mikel Crumes was convicted in the murder case in August. “Judge Patricia Summe followed the jury’s recommendation and sentenced Mikael Crumes to 30 yrs in prison for murder of DreShawn Hammond,” wrote Kenton County Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Sanders at Twitter.

According to investigators, Crumes shot Hammond multiple times as the teens walked a trail that connects two housing projects, City Heights and Latonia Terrace. Crumes’s co-defendant, Tramonte Rice, was sentenced to twenty years last month after agreeing to testify against Crumes.

WCPO reports that Crumes was also sentenced to twenty years for robbery, a sentence that will be served concurrently with his sentence for murder.
