The Ryle Raiders softball team (7-5) knows it is in control of its own destiny in terms of earning the top seed in the 33rd District Tournament if it defends its home turf.

The Raiders scored seven runs in the top of the first inning in the first of three straight home district seed contests to knock off the Boone County Rebels, 8-3. Ryle is 3-0 after the first go-around in district seed play and Boone County is third at 1-2.

The first five batters reached that first inning for Ryle. Sophomore catcher Laney Schuster and senior center fielder Aaliyah Kaseke had two-run doubles in that inning.

Kaseke led the way, collecting two of the team’s five hits, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and three runs batted in. Kaseke and Schuster batted in two each. Senior shortstop Avery Parsons scored twice.

Junior Maddie Goddard (6-4) pitched a complete game, striking out three and walking two with no earned runs. Ryle had four errors to three for Boone County. Goddard limited Boone County to three hits.

Ryle plays host to Conner on Thursday at 5 p.m. Boone County (5-10) travels to Cooper at the same time.

The Colonels (11-5) scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to rally past the visiting Bluebirds (9-8).

Both teams had 10 hits. Junior designated hitter Charlie Dieruf led the Colonels going 3-for-3 with a double, triple, one run batted in and one run scored. Senior first baseman Max Lawrie went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a double. Sophomore right fielder Ben McEvoy added a double and junior center fielder Joseph Magary scored twice.

Junior Bradley Zekl (3-0) pitched six innings to earn the win, striking out four, walking two and allowing two earned runs. Sophomore Marcus Suwinski pitched the seventh.

Senior shortstop Jack Hendrix led Highlands going 3-for-3 with a triple and scored twice. Senior Ryan DeBurger went 2-for-4 with a double and junior first baseman Luke Schneider batted in two. Junior left fielder Callum McAtee and senior center fielder Brennan Kelsay added doubles.

CovCath plays host to Campbell County at 5 p.m. Wednesday while Highlands hosts Newport Central Catholic at the same time.
