The All “A” Boys soccer 9th Region championship game is set for Saturday at Morscher Field in Silver Grove at 2 p.m.
The Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds (6-1) will take on the Holy Cross Crusaders (3-2-1). NewCath won the region title last year on its way to the All “A” State semifinals.
NewCath knocked off Beechwood, 3-1 on Thursday to make it back to the championship game, outshooting the Tigers, 14-8. Senior goalkeeper Mason McCloskey made three saves for NewCath.
Owen Roeder had one goal and one assist to lead the Thoroughbreds. Ryan Desmond and Jonathan Green scored the other NewCath goals with Chase Fields and Brady Diedenhofer adding assists.
Holy Cross knocked off St. Henry, 2-1 in the other semifinal game. Senior Nico Voight scored both goals for the Indians and goalkeeper Wyatt Driscoll had six saves. James Stewart scored St. Henry’s lone goal and Will Carter had the assist.
Beechwood (2-3) plays at Villa Madonna (2-2-2) on Tuesday at 5 p.m. St. Henry plays host to NewCath on Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Dixie Heights 2, Cooper 1
The Colonels won their second straight with a home 9th Region win over the Jaguars.
Donovan Lameier and Trevor Bolte had the goals for Dixie Heights (3-3-1). Maddox Pemberton scored the lone goal for the Jaguars (2-2-2) and Will Hamblen had the assist.
Dixie Heights plays host to Ryle (4-2) on Tuesday at 8 p.m. Cooper goes to Bishop Brossart (4-2-2) at the same time.

The Bluebirds knocked off the Eagles in a non-region home game. Both teams are 2-2 on the season.
Highlands finished with 58 digs and 29 assists. Annie Ellison led Highlands with 16 digs with Hayden Gessner and Kenzie Roderick contributing 13 and 12, respectively. Ella Cox had 16 assists and Ava Muzumdar added 13.
“I took them to task after the Simon Kenton match about our ball control and they clearly demonstrated (Thursday) what they’re capable of,” said Jim DeLong, Highlands head coach. “I felt like Scott’s serving was not any different than Simon Kenton’s serving. They just handled it a lot better.”
That led to 31 kills for Highlands. Sydney Schomaker led the way there with 10 and Rachel Ossege had eight.
The Bluebirds also had 10 blocks and nice aces. Lyla Bottom had four blocks with Ossege and Alexis Steinhauser recording two each. Muzumdar had a team-high nine aces with Cox and Roderick landing two each.
“Our team has been working really hard in practice so being able to play that out in games is really cool,” Ossege said. “We’ve been running some new defensive set-ups. It’s really working. Our defense is scrappy and it really helps our offense get going.”
Scott had four aces, 19 kills, 12 blocks, 17 assists and 34 digs. Milyn Minor led the Eagles with seven kills and nine digs. Ryann Grigsby had 17 assists and two aces. Minor, Payton Grigsby, Morgan Justice and Brooke Balsley had three blocks each. Balsley added seven kills with Brooklyn Helm and Payton Grigsby digging up seven balls each.
Scott plays in the Dink Scott Memorial Tournament on Saturday at Montgomery County. Highlands does not play again until Sept. 1 in the September Slam at Scott.
Simon Kenton 3, Ryle 2 (25-15, 19-25, 25-22, 23-25, 21-19)
The Pioneers concluded a big week with another huge win taking down the Raiders for the first time since 2009, ending a 14-game Ryle winning streak in the series.
Simon Kenton (4-1) had 43 kills, eight blocks, 35 assists, 14 aces and 91 digs. Jenna Kitchens had 19 kills, two blocks and 15 digs for the Pioneers with Keira Hans tallying eight kills, two blocks and 14 digs. Alisha Hawkins added seven kills, three blocks and three aces.
Tori Chasteen had five kills, 20 digs and two aces for the Pioneers. Sadie Rehkamp had 23 assists with Tiffanie Alo added 12 assists and two aces.
Olivia Karlosky had four aces and 19 digs to lead Ryle (2-2). Alexis Woolf tied Karlosky with 19 digs. Karsyn Griffin had 36 assists with Lucy Trapp and Abby Lester recording 17 and 12 kills respectively.
Simon Kenton plays at Williamstown (2-1) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Ryle plays a tri-match with Elizabethtown (2-0) and North Oldham (3-1) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Holy Cross 3, Campbell County 1 (25-16, 14-25, 25-20, 25-18)
The Indians stayed undefeated with the road win against the Camels.
Julia Hunt led Holy Cross (4-0) with 31 kills, 18 digs, four blocks and one ace. Lucy Lenihan had 25 assists, one kill and six digs. Olivia Gangwish had 17 digs with Camille Lowe tallying two blocks and two kills.
Campbell County (1-3) had 27 kills, 16 blocks, 16 assists, 47 digs and nine aces. Emma Manser and Lexi Scharold led the Camels with 11 and 9 kills, respectively, and five blocks each. Hope Hamilton had eight assists and 13 digs with Ella Thorwarth and A Lon McIntyre digging up 14 and 12 balls respectively. Faith Whitford served six aces with Ava Crowl tallying seven assists and three aces.
Holy Cross plays host to Dayton (3-4) in the 9th Region All “A” Tournament at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Campbell County plays at Cooper (0-2) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Dixie Heights 2, Ludlow 0 (25-13, 25-15)
The Colonels handled the visiting Panthers in the first 34th District seed game for both teams.
Maddie Kelly put up 20 assists for Dixie Heights (6-2). Maggie Best recorded 13 kills and Celia Wallace had three aces.
Ludlow (3-4) plays three games Saturday in the Frankfort Invitational Tournament. The Panthers take on Berea, Frankfort and the home school CCAA Cougars out of Frankfort at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and Noon respectively.
Dixie Heights plays host to Conner (5-0) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Bishop Brossart 2, Robertson County 0 (25-16, 25-20)
The Mustangs opened the 10th Region All “A” Tournament with a sound victory.
Bishop Brossart (4-1) had five aces, 27 kills, 23 assists and 33 digs. Maddie Kremer led the Mustangs with 11 digs with Aubrey Rebholz tallied a team-high 17 assists. Kate Neltner had 11 kills with Kremer and Jessica Keller recording two aces each.
Brossart plays in the region semifinals at Augusta at Noon on Saturday against either the host Panthers (0-5) or Paris (0-7).
Lafayette 2, Newport Central Catholic 1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-20)
The Thoroughbreds lost a tight one in three sets in Lexington.
NewCath (1-5) had 33 kills, 41 digs, 29 assists and one ace. Kori Reckers had 16 assists, 10 kills, six digs and NewCath’s lone ace to lead the way. Paytin Reckers led NewCath with 10 digs and Elena Henderson had seven kills and Vivi Fassler added seven assists.
NewCath travels to Oldenburg Academy (Indiana) on Saturday at Noon.
