Holy Cross 41, Middletown Christian (Ohio) 7

The Indians won their third in a row, taking out an Ohio opponent for the second time in three weeks.

“We’re young. We made some mistakes. We’re fortunate to win some games despite those mistakes and turn them into learning events,” said Bruce Kozerski, Holy Cross head coach. “Hopefully, we continue to do that because we’ve gotten more consistent every week. I give this team all the kudos because they care about each other. They don’t fight internally. When one guy’s down, someone picks him up.”

Holy Cross outgained Middletown Christian, 369-124. Donovan Ambrocio completed 5-of-9 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Ulysses Porter rushed for 88 yards and three touchdowns and caught two passes for 47 yards and a touchdown. Davonte Ryan led the Indians (3-1) with three catches for 60 yards.

Trevin Figgs rushed for another touchdown and Braylon Thornsberry caught a touchdown pass. Thornsberry also had an interception.

Holy Cross travels across the river Friday to face Cincinnati College Prep Academy (Ohio) at 7 p.m.

COOPER 38, CAMPBELL COUNTY 14

The purple and gold dromedaries from Claryville traversed county lines and the Nile River of the North America (Licking River, much like the Nile River, it flows north for those of having flashbacks to 10th grade World Civilization class) and ventured to the plains high off Longranch Road for tussle with the Jaguars.

Cooper (3-1) didn’t waste time trying to rid the bitter taste of a tough loss last week to crosstown rival Ryle, by striking quickly in two plays.  The first was a pass from sophomore Cam O’Hara to junior Austin Alexander, who motored 65 yards to the Camel 13 yard line.  On the next play, O’Hara connected again with Alexander, for a 13-yard strike to get the scoring started.

An Alexander deflected pass that was intercepted by senior linebacker Jack Lonaker set up the next Jaguars score.  With 11:52 on the clock in the second quarter, O’Hara quickly found sophomore running back Keagan Maher out of the backfield for a 23-yard touchdown pass to put The Prowl up 14-0.

On the ensuing possession the Camels (1-3) showed some life as senior quarterback Nate Smith found junior receiver Xavier Fancher behind the Jag defense for a 62-yard touchdown pass.

Cooper wasted no time in getting those points back, in just one play, as O’Hara dialed up junior Isaiah Johnson for a a 69-yard touchdown pass.

Cooper tacked on three more points with 3:56 left in the second quarter as senior placekicker Carson Taylor booted a 30-yard field goal to make the score 24-7.

Campbell County drove deep into Jaguar territory, but Alexander intercepted a pass in the end zone and returned it 75 yards before being brought down to end the half.

In the second half, the Camels took advantage of a short field, after forcing the Jags to a quick three and out and sophomore Trevor Bertram scampered in from 4 yards out to cut the lead to 24-14, however, that would be the end of the scoring for the night for the Camels.

With 2:59 left in the third quarter, junior wideout Issac Brown caught a 10-yard pass from O’Hara, which would be O’Hara’s fourth touchdown pass on the night.

Keagan Maher closed out the scoring with a one-yard plunge with 5:17 remaining in the game.

Next week, Campbell hosts Newport Central Catholic while Cooper will travel to Great Crossing.

O’Hara completed 17-of-24 passes for 295 yards and four touchdowns. Isaiah Johnson had five catches for 104 yards and one touchdown with Austin Alexander catching three for 108 yards and one touchdown. Keagan Maher had three catches for 38 yards and one touchdown and ran for 37 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Jack Lonaker had seven solo and seven assisted tackles. Mike Mulvihill had six solo and two assisted tackles with Mason Stanton tallying five solo and two assisted tackles. Ryker Campbell added four solo and two assisted tackles. Brown, Alexander and Lonaker had one interception each.

Smith threw for 192 yards with the touchdown throw to Fancher. Carson Evers 43 rushing yards led them on the ground.

Kameron Vickers and Blake Funston had three solo and three assisted tackles each on defense for the Camels. Aiden Dowds had four tackles for a loss and Mason Wiseman added a quarterback sack.

Gulley also hauled in a 27-yard touchdown pass from Mandel.
