Maddie Scherr has picked her final destination to play college basketball.

The University of Kentucky senior and Ryle grad is transferring to Texas Christian University. She spent the last two seasons at UK and prior to that started off her college career at Oregon. Scherr has one year of eligibility remaining.

As a senior, Scherr averaged 12.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game for the Wildcats in 26 games played. TCU head coach Mark Campbell was an assistant at Oregon during Scherr’s freshman season and played a major role in recruiting her to the Ducks.  Scherr wasn’t the only notable transfer to the Horned Frogs, LSU’s Hailey Van Lith announcing her intentions to play in Fort Worth as well. Van Lith started her college career at University of Louisville under Highlands grad and Cardinals head coach Jeff Walz.

Scherr brings a veteran point guard to the mix, having played in 108 games throughout her college career. She’s scored 859 points, dished out 352 assists, pulled down 296 rebounds and recorded 174 steals in four seasons.

At Ryle, Scherr won Miss Kentucky Basketball in 2020 and was a Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year winner her junior and senior seasons.

Scherr helped Ryle to three consecutive 9th Region championships from 2018-20, helping the Raiders to their first state title in program history in 2019. Scherr graduated as Ryle’s all-time leader in scoring, rebounding and assists.

She came back to the high school for a game this past season on Jan. 31 against Frederick Douglass, honored with a retired jersey and poster for winning the 2020 Miss Kentucky basketball award.
