St. Henry 21, Gallatin County 12

The Crusaders earned their first varsity football win in school history with a home victory over the Wildcats.
It was the district opener for the two, the Crusaders now essentially a win away from achieving one of their goals of making the playoffs in their inaugural varsity season.
St. Henry (1-4) got two rushing touchdowns from Caden Kunstek and the other score coming from Cy Parento hitting David Penick for a score. Andrew Stewart led the defense with two interceptions.
The Crusaders host Owen County next week in another district battle.
Cooper 49, Conner 14

The Jaguars and Cougars opened up 5A, District 5 play off high on the plains off Longbranch Road in Union.
Cooper entered district play 2-3 with a battle-tested schedule, hoping to get back on track and the Cougars were the panacea that cured the ills of that difficult five-game opening stretch for the Jags.
Cooper raced out to a 42-7 halftime lead behind three touchdown passes by Cam O’Hara and four rushing touchdowns by Keagan Maher.
O’Hara connected on three scoring strikes covering 32, five and seven yards. O’Hara would finish the night going 14-of-19 for 220 yards and three touchdowns in just over two quarters plus of action.
Ryker Campbell was his top target with four catches for 89 yards and one touchdown.
Maher carried 16 times for 157 yards and added three touchdowns and added a fourth touchdown via receiving while accumulating 211 yards of total offense.
Conner’s Shepherd Dozier had six catches for 181 yards and two touchdowns, including an 89-yard touchdown reception in the opening quarter.
Cooper (3-3) will head to Dixie Heighs next week while Conner (1-5) will host Boone County.
Covington Catholic 35, Central 6
Cash Harney threw for 227 yards and two touchdowns while Dylan Gaiser scored four touchdowns, three rushing, one receiving in the Colonels fourth straight victory (4-2).
Gaiser ran for 91 yards and combined for 149 total yards. Owen Pitzer had the other receiving touchdown.
CovCath had the game at a running clock with 9:02 to play in the fourth. The Yellow Jackets lone score came with 4:29 to play.
The Colonels get Highlands next week in the highly anticipated matchup.
Holy Cross 51, Eminence 6
Brian Ferguson threw for two touchdowns and rushed for two more as the Indians improved to 5-0.
Charles Oglesby added two touchdowns, one rushing and one on defense with a pick six as his 38-yard touchdown run got the game to a running clock near the end of the third quarter. Ferguson’s touchdown passes were to Braylon Thornberry and Tommy Maddox, Jacob Rieselman doing the final damage of the day with a rushing score.
Holy Cross gets another home game at Thomas More next week against Frankfort.
Beechwood 68, Owen County 6
This one was decided rather quickly as Beechwood put up 14 points before they took an offensive snap. Kyle Ritter returned a kickoff for a touchdown and Tyler Fryman had a punt return touchdown.
From there, Emmett Queen threw four touchdown passes, three of them to Fryman. Kellen Siemer, Calvin Burkhardt and Nathan Pabst also had receiving touchdowns. Cole Coppage threw two as he came on for Queen in the lopsided affair.
Fryman and Ritter also ran for touchdowns, giving Fryman five in total in the contest.
Beechwood (4-1) is 1-0 in district play and plays at Walton-Verona next.
Sayre 26, Newport 0
The Wildcats were blanked by the reigning Class 1A champs in Lexington.
Newport (3-3) struggled to move the ball, collecting 143 total yards in the contest and threw three interceptions.
The Wildcats get a week off before facing district rival Newport Central Catholic on Oct. 10 at Dixie Heights.
