Northern Kentucky basketball star Dontaie Allen has officially jumped into the NCAA transfer portal. The 6-6 guard announced his decision to transfer from the University of Kentucky basketball program on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
Allen, a native of Falmouth, KY, averaged 2.2 points per game, 1.2 rebounds, and 0.3 assists in 17 games for the Wildcats this season. Allen averaged 6.4 minutes per game, falling out of the rotation towards the end of the season. Allen’s career highlight for Kentucky was erupting for 23 points off the bench last season in a double overtime victory over Mississippi State in Starkville.
Kentucky Head Coach John Calipari praised Allen’s work ethic and ability as a teammate in response to Allen’s announcement.
Allen is one of the most prolific scorers in the history of Kentucky high school basketball. Allen won Kentucky’s Mr. Basketball Award in 2019 starring for the Pendleton County Wildcats. Allen scored 3,255 career points in high school. He averaged 42.9 points per game in his senior season before it was cut short due to a torn ACL. Allen also snagged 1,228 career rebounds, averaging 14.2 per game during his senior season.
Allen will undoubtedly be a hot commodity in the transfer portal. Allen is known as a knockdown shooter. While he struggled from the 3-point line this season due to an inconsistent role, Allen shot 39 percent from beyond the arc in the 2020-2021 season.
