FRANKFORT, KY (May 5, 2026) — Sen. Shelley Funke Frommeyer, R-Alexandria, has secured more than $120 million for road and infrastructure improvements in Campbell County. These improvements will ease traffic in and around one of Kentucky’s fastest-growing areas in northern Kentucky.

Major investments were included in House Bill 900 with a strong focus on improving key corridors and supporting economic development.

Key projects include
• $6 million Kentucky Heritage Land Conservation Fund to complete six conservation-related projects currently in the fund’s project pipeline and
• $2 million for the City of Newport to support the installation of an LED lighting system on the Purple People Bridge.

The biennial road plan also includes additional supporting phases in Campbell County, including right-of-way and utility coordination work associated with major corridor improvements and local access projects including

• $92.3 million for construction of the replacement 4th Street Bridge between Covington and Newport
• $14.82 million is allocated for the extension of KY 536 (Pond Creek Road) from U.S. 27 to Persimmon Grove at KY 1121, including right-of-way acquisition and utilities relocation for the first section through Construction Ready Project (CRP) funding. This funding is part of a $230 million allocation from the Budget Reserve Trust Fund to accelerate projects to construction.
• $4.34 million to design construct a new I-471 southbound off-ramp at KY 8

Campbell County projects also include $1.3 million in funding for the Local Assistance Road Program to resurface and relieve hazardous conditions on county and city roads. Projects include resurfacing Sayde Court, Dixie Place, Longridge Lane, and relieve hazardous conditions on Poplar Thicket Road, Murnan Road and Lafayette Avenue.

“I am committed to prioritizing safety, as it strengthens Kentucky’s appeal as a place where families can live, work, and thrive,” said Frommeyer. “By investing in infrastructure and focusing on economic growth and the future of energy innovation, we are positioning our communities for long-term success. I’m grateful to my House counterparts for their collaboration in securing these funds, which will enhance the quality of life in Campbell County and make it even more attractive for those looking to call it home.”

The state road plan includes a $4.6 billion biennial road plan alongside a $7 billion transportation operating budget, ensuring that projects can move forward without delays or overpromising state resources. These two major pieces of transportation-related legislation maintained a disciplined approach focused on delivering projects ready for construction and improving infrastructure across communities statewide.

The biennial road plan is fully funded, with no overprogramming of state dollars, increasing the likelihood that projects included in the plan can be completed within the budget cycle.
