Commissioners gathered Monday for a new look at computer-rendered images of Union’s new city building from Summit A&E, a local architecture and engineering firm.

Summit has worked on several other government projects, one of their most recent ones being the city of Elmsmere’s main city building.

Summit CEO and President Scott Noel presented City of Union council members and commissioners with new images of the building’s floorplan and exterior, as well as a potential price tag of $2.9 million for brick-and-mortar costs.

This being the third render the commission has seen, commissioner Brian Garner said he believes they’re on the right track.

“We didn’t want it to look like a jail, we didn’t want it to look like a school,” Garner said. “It wasn’t extravagant—it was practical. You don’t want to be wasteful.”

The current Union City Hall is a repurposed single-story ranch-style home, which the city is quickly finding it has outgrown. This new building will be nearly three times the size of the previous one.

One new feature the new city hall will include is a multipurpose space for community use, which will accompany a new city park being built right next door.

Final approval on a blueprint is expected to be given in late 2024 to early 2025.
