A Florence pediatrician is running 100 miles to raise money for victims of child abuse and neglect.
Dr. Robert Tagher, a practicing family doctor at Pediatrics of Florence, is gathering sponsorships for his 100-mile run in Florida this weekend. The Keys 100 ultramarathon isn’t his first big race or fundraiser. Tagher ran an ultramarathon in 2017, raising over $20,000 for the Northern Kentucky Children’s Advocacy Center. This year, Tagher is running again with the goal of raising more money for the advocacy center.
His race is set for Saturday, May 21 and Sunday, May 22. Tagher said those sponsorships keep him going against fatigue and exhaustion, mile after mile.
“I absolutely love to run, so being able to do it with others and for others means a lot to me,” Tagher said.
The advocacy center, located at 4890 Houston Road in Florence, served more than 800 children who were abused or neglected in the region last year. Tagher serves on the board of directors there as well.
Vickie Henderson, executive director of the advocacy center, said Tagher’s run is inspiring, and “there is a whole team of supporters back in his community cheering him on.”
The Northern Kentucky Children’s Advocacy Center will track Tagher’s race on Facebook. Information on how to donate or become a sponsor is also shared on the nonprofit’s page.
