Independence City Council unanimously accepted a bid Monday night to perform corrective construction in the streets of the Falcon Ridge subdivision.
The bid relates to a corrective construction project addressing water seepage in the subdivision, which has caused damage to road expansion joints and led to unsightly mold blooms along the sidewalks and curbs.
The problem has been going on for years, according to Mayor Chris Reinersman. What’s more, it’s not clear what’s causing the problem. The mayor speculated that there may be a natural spring beneath the subdivision that could be leaking up through the streets, but there’s no way to know for sure until the work starts.
Humphrey Concrete made the winning bid at $567,273.75, which is just over the estimated cost of the project, according to city documents.
The city will mail out information to the residents of Falcon Ridge before construction begins. It will also hold public meetings where residents can ask questions and get additional information about the project. The meetings have not yet been scheduled, but city administrator Chris Moriconi said that the meetings would be held later this month with construction beginning shortly thereafter.
