The Park Hills City Council voted to approve a fund transfer to repair city stairs at its meeting this week.
By unanimous vote, the council approved the transfer of $40,000 from the city’s general fund into capital improvement fund to repair the stairs from Alhambra Court to Amsterdam Road. The stairs have already been marked for repair.
The vote followed an extensive discussion on potential solutions to reduce speeding on Park Drive, Arlington Road and Old State Road.
Councilmembers Pamela Spoor and Sarah Froelich raised residents’ concerns that cars are not slowing down at stop signs when pedestrians, including children, are walking to Trolley Park. An increase in speed bumps and radar speed signs was suggested as a possible solution.
The use of empty police cruisers as a speeding deterrent on Arlington Road was also discussed. While some motorists might be aware that the cruisers are unoccupied, their presence alone could prompt greater caution and lead to more careful driving, the council concluded.
The council did not take action on the speeding issue but suggested it as a topic for a future caucus meeting.
