An annual, region-wide backpack and school supply giveaway event called Backpacks Bonanza, formerly called Backpacks and Breakfast, will take place on Saturday, Aug. 8 this year, according to a Monday announcement from the organizers.

“The goal of this year’s event, sponsored by Northern Kentucky Harvest, is to provide at least 1,175 backpacks filled with new school supplies to children from low-income families in grades pre-school through 12th grade, including those who are home-schooled,” according to the organizers’ announcement.

This will be the 26th year Northern Kentucky Harvest has organized the event.

The event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 8 from 9 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of St. Elizabeth Healthcare’s Covington campus on James Simpson Jr. Way. Most packs will be given away on a first come, first-served basis. Remaining packs will be distributed to Northern Kentucky Harvest’s nonprofit partners: Welcome House, Be Concerned, the Brighton Center, the ION Center, Fiesta and the Esperanza Latino Center.
