Members of the public are invited to give their input on a project to make improvements to Charter Oak Road in Edgewood.

The project, which is in the design phase, won’t require major construction work. The first phase if the project is expected to cost about $750,000.

The improvement plans haven’t been made public yet, but they will be shared ahead of the June 10 public meeting, according to General Services Director Rick Lunnemann.

“We’ll be getting information out to the public very soon,” Lunnemann said at last week’s Edgewood City Council meeting.

Talk about the updates was part of a larger conversation about infrastructure projects in the city and how much of the 2027 fiscal year budget would go to each project. The city has a list of infrastructure needs that add up to about $4.5 million, but the city has about $1.5 million to work with.

Some utilities will need to be moved for the Charter Oak Road project, Lunnemann said, along with utility poles and a gas line, but the city decided against improvements that would change the roadway’s existing grades or surrounding terrain because of the cost and surrounding properties.

“The road will generally follow the same basic contours as it currently does,” Lunnemann said.

Officials expect phase one of the project to begin in spring 2027, with about $750,000 allocated in the upcoming budget cycle.

Anyone from the public is invited to attend the June 10 meeting to provide feedback or ideas. The event starts at 6 p.m. at Edgewood Liberty Hall, also known as the Senior Center. The address is 550 Freedom Park in Edgewood.

While this project is not currently listed, it will be available at the city’s Citizen Engagement Page once the information is made public.

Council members also reviewed a few other upcoming road projects at the meeting:

  • Park related resurfacing work: About $112,000 of the year’s fiscal budget will be allocated, though city officials said most of it would be paid for through grants.
  • Horse Branch Road: Resurfacing and repair is included in the budget with a cost estimation of about $400,000.
  • Garden View improvement project: Expected to cost around $175,000.

Council members also reviewed additional road projects, many of which will be supported through grant funding.

Officials said planned projects include about $112,000 for park-related resurfacing work, much of which would be covered by grants. Horse Branch Road resurfacing and repair is also included, with the city’s share estimated at about $400,000.

Phase one of Charter Oak Road is budgeted at about $750,000 for next spring, and Garden View is projected at roughly $175,000. Officials said the city is planning about $1.437 million in total project costs out of approximately $4.5 million in needs, while maintaining reserves for future roadway issues.
