The Kenton County Planning Commission granted a request from the City of Villa Hills last week, allowing for greater permitted zoning for residential care homes.
Kentucky law defines residential care homes as “a residence operated and maintained by a sponsoring private or governmental agency to provide services in a homelike setting for persons with disabilities,” according to county documents.
Previously, the city allowed residential care homes in its residential large lot subdivision, residential conventional subdivision and residential compact subdivision zones but only under certain conditions.
With last week’s approval, care homes are now allowed within those zones without conditions. The county’s approval also allows care homes as permitted uses within the city’s riverfront development zones.
The vote from the planning commission to allow the use expansion was unanimous.
