The City of Covington has successfully secured 30 participants for its first-ever Mayor’s Academy, a citizens’ academy that aims to educate interested residents about the functions and operations of local government.
Similar academies can be found in various institutions throughout Northern Kentucky.
“The members of the inaugural class embody what makes Covington a truly special place to live and work—individuals from diverse backgrounds united by a shared commitment to strengthening our community,” Mayor Ron Washington said in a city announcement about the inaugural class. “It is our hope that, upon graduation, these community leaders will feel empowered to continue shaping a brighter, more vibrant future for Covington.”
The eight-week program will last from August of this year to April 2026. Class sessions will be led by both city department heads and elected officials. Class topics will include “everything from city administration and budgeting to public safety, public works, parks and recreation, legal and human resources and neighborhood services,” according to the announcement.
