The Point/Arc, a local nonprofit that provides various services and projects for people with disabilities, broke ground on a new facility in Burlington last week.
Point/Arc Executive Director for Support of Community Living and registered nurse Terri Angel said the facility is “the first residential advanced care home in the state.”
“People living in these homes will have various physical disabilities which prevent them from living in our regular residential group homes,” Angel also said in a press release.
The 6,000 square foot facility has been in development since the mid-2000s. This will be the nonprofit’s nineteenth group home and will feature six bedrooms for residents, plus an extra for visitors.

The project came about “because individuals are living longer, and their medical needs are more involved,” said Point/Arc Founder Judi Gerding in the same release. “We will not surrender to nursing homes; we want to keep the family unit intact – and in the end we’ll know these people will have a true quality of life.”
The project is scheduled for completion by spring of 2026. Construction will begin next month.
