The Independence Fire District is now accepting applications to its citizen academy, which provides education on the profession of firefighting in Independence to normal residents.
The eight-week course, writes Independence Fire Chief Scott Breeze in an email, “covers finance and history of the department, training, public education, fire and EMS operations and communication. The goal of the program is to increase transparency of how our agency operates and to educate the general public on the workings of a modern professional fire department.”
The next course runs from Aug. 12 to Sept. 30. Independence residents interested in attending the academy can apply and learn more at independencekyfire.org.
There are numerous citizen academies throughout Northern Kentucky that aim to shed light on government operations. Read NKU Professor Darrin Wilson’s guest column about them to learn more.
