After 21 years of service, major Jeremy Newberry is retiring from the Campbell County Police Department.
Newberry was recognized by the Campbell County Fiscal Court and the police department on Wednesday for his years of service.
“We have a very high-quality police force,” Campbell County Judge/Executive Steve Pendery said. “I’ve said it many times over years and it’s because it’s true not trite. You look around the room and you consider the quality of the people that we are fortunate to have working for us, and it’s very high. If you look at the leadership and you consider the quality of the people, we have it’s very high. When you look at Jeremy, and you consider quality, it’s off the charts.”
Campbell County Police Chief Craig Sorrell said over the 10 years of working together Newberry has been the person that he has relied on the most.
“It’s been a wonderful career,” Newberry said. “I don’t regret any of it. I think I’ve sometimes been put in positions that I was uncomfortable with, was unsure about, but I think those are all opportunities to learn and to grow as a police officer, as a leader. So very grateful for those opportunities.”
Newberry thanked his family for their support throughout his career. His mom and dad, who he said carted his kids around when he was unavailable or worked crazy shifts. He also thanked his wife for taking care of things at home when he couldn’t.
“I’ve had a great career, looking forward to whatever might be next in my retirement,” Newberry said. “So far, I’ve played pickleball, which was fun, I grew a beard and slept in a little bit.”
