Alexandria zoning would allow for ‘hybrid’ between large, small developments
The Alexandria Planning and Zoning Commission discussed implementing a new zone in the city and sign regulations during its first meeting of the new year. The commission discussed adding a neighborhood commercial zone, which is smaller than a highway commercial zone but has some overlap with allowed uses. The commission also discussed the need to update its comprehensive plan and its sign ordinance, which is not content-neutral, according to a Supreme Court ruling.

A brewpub multiplex may be coming to Boone County

Resident appeals 39-unit complex in Covington
A zoning change to allow Covington-based developer Orleans Development to convert an old warehouse building into apartments has been sent to the city commission for final approval following a request from a resident. The property in question is located at 1564 Banklick Street in the city’s Westside neighborhood. The Kenton County Planning Commission recommended the zoning change in early December, and the city commission elected to forego a public hearing, meaning that the first reading for the zoning change will take place at the legislative meeting on Jan. 14. The plan is to convert the building into a four-floor apartment complex with 39 units and 52 off-street parking spaces.

Elsmere votes no on councilmember’s request for virtual meetings
The Elsmere City Council has denied councilmember Serena Owen’s request to attend council meetings remotely as accommodation for her disability. Owen has been seeking to attend meetings virtually since September 2024 due to concerns about her safety. The council offered various accommodations, including a chauffeur to the meetings, a police escort, a bulletproof vest and plexiglass protection around Owen’s seat. Council members have criticized Owen’s lack of attendance at meetings and have not changed their minds about virtual attendance. The council unanimously voted against granting the request, closing the issue for the remainder of the year.
