The City of Walton announced that it has mutually agreed to part ways with its city administrator.
Walton City Administrator Scott Smith is stepping down less than six months after taking the job in March. The city announced his departure in a news release on Thursday.
“On behalf of the City of Walton, I want to thank Scott for his time and efforts. We appreciate his service and wish him well in his future endeavors,” Mayor Terri Courtney said in the release.
Smith’s previous experience as a city administrator came from his tenure with the City of Ludlow. Smith joined Ludlow as police chief in 2015 and later became city administrator in 2019 while continuing to lead the police department. His simultaneous service in both roles was controversial with some city council members.
The unusual arrangement lasted from 2019 until 2024, when pushback from city council members ultimately led Smith to resign from both positions. He was rehired as Ludlow’s full-time city administrator in late 2024 and remained in the role until March 2026; he was then hired by Walton later that month.
