Former Fort Wright City Council Member and businessman Jeff Wolnitzek died on Friday, Dec. 27. He was 66.
Wolnitzek served on the Fort Wright City Council for 17 years from 1990 to 2007 and either founded or acquired several local construction businesses, including Specialty Interiors, Boone Steel, Carrera Construction and Stewart Iron Works.
He also served in the Fort Wright Volunteer Fire and Life Squad Department for 16 years, eventually earning the rank of assistant chief, a role in which he served from 1985 to 1989.
“Jeff spent many years serving our community in a variety of capacities,” said Mayor Dave Hatter in a social media announcement. “His self-sacrificing civic spirit and volunteerism made a significant made a significant impact in our city, and we’d like to take a moment here to acknowledge, thank and remember his service and dedication to the City of Fort Wright.”
A service in honor of Wolnitzek will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at St. Agnes Church in Fort Wright, beginning at 10 a.m. A celebration of Wolnitzek’s life will take place afterwards at Drees Pavilion in Devou Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to either Redwood School or Hospice of the Bluegrass.
