Northern Kentucky University got a new regent this week: attorney Shea Conley.
Conley is replacing Rich Boehne, who formerly served as the chair of the Board of Regents until July, when his term expired.
Regent Nathan Smith was then elected to the role of chair, but Boehne continued to serve as a regent until Gov. Andy Beshear could appoint a replacement. The governor’s office announced the appointment on Tuesday, saying that Conley will serve on the Board of Regents until the close of the 2029-2030 academic year.
“Shea’s expertise and commitment to both the field of law and the broader community are a perfect match with NKU’s mission and values,” said Smith said in a press release. “We are excited about the impact he’ll have in shaping the university’s future.”

Conley currently works as an attorney at Morgan & Morgan, where he handles cases involving personal injury, wrongful death, insurance disputes and product liability.
“Shea has a distinguished career as a litigation attorney,” said NKU President Cady Short-Thompson. “He is dedicated to serving both the legal profession and the community, which makes him an outstanding addition to our board. His extensive experience and commitment to excellence will be invaluable as we continue to advance NKU’s mission.”
Conley said his welcome from the board and Short-Thompson has been enthusiastic and encouraging.
“I am honored to join Northern Kentucky University’s Board of Regents and excited to work alongside such dedicated leaders,” Conley said. “I look forward to contributing to the continued success of the institution, ensuring we uphold our student-centered mission. I am excited to build on the strong foundation already in place and help guide the university toward an even brighter future.”
