What to do with the remaining funds from federal COVID-19 relief grants was up for discussion during Tuesday’s Highland Heights City Council meeting.

The council provided an update on the spending of remaining American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. These funds were given to municipalities following the pandemic with the focus of “rescuing the American economy, and starting to beat the virus,” per whitehouse.gov.

The city has spent the funds on several projects, the remaining will be spent on the following city projects:

  • Sunset Drive redesign
  •  Three vehicles for the police and public works department
  • Social Worker position inside the police department
  • North US-27 entrance sign

Additionally, the funds will also cover the first phase of the greenspace study introduced earlier this spring. The study discussed potential new additions to the city’s park over a five to 10-year span, such as new playgrounds, spaces for sports activities, and an outdoor event space.
