The Villa Hills City Council approved a bid for the construction of a winter salt storage building slated for construction next to the city’s public works building on Wednesday.
The approval was for the construction of the main storage building itself. The overall project features several smaller ancillary road and construction projects, all of which are at various stages of approval. The city hopes to have the facility completed sometime in November before the worst of the winter weather sets in.
In the past the city stored its salt in a rented warehouse in Crescent Springs, but talk about the city constructing its own facility dates back years. The warehouse owner told the city to vacate last month.
The construction approved on Wednesday carries an estimated price tag of roughly $219,000. The total cost for the project is expected to be $349,892, which will be paid out of the city’s American Rescue Plan Act, or ARPA, fund. The city also stipulated on Wednesday that the total cost of the project will not exceed $400,000.
