Northern Kentucky nonprofits can learn skills such as grant proposal planning and writing, finding grant funding opportunities, strategies for securing federal grants and more in a two-day grant workshop hosted by the Kentucky Nonprofit Network.

The workshop is set for July 18 and 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Zembrodt Education Center, located at 104 West Pike Street in Covington. The Grants 101 and 102 workshop will be led by grant professional Melissa Vermillion — an instructor with experience in securing more than $40 million in state and federal funding. She has a particular interest in helping rural nonprofits and communities.

Participants will learn the basics of writing styles, proposal planning, proposal writing format, basic grant components, budgeting, how to find grant opportunities and how to make an application competitive.

Specifically, the first day provides an introduction to the grant process, while the second takes a deeper dive into a winning federal grant application. Day two will also include information on the state’s G.R.A.N.T. Program, or Government Resources Accelerating Needed Transformation, which provides an opportunity for nonprofits and local governments to apply for funds that can be used to meet the match/cost share required by some federal grants.

The workshop is open to both Kentucky Nonprofit Network members and potential member organizations. Registration for Kentucky Nonprofit Network members is $50 for both days and $30 for one day.

Potential-member pricing is $80 and $45, but attendees can join KNN before registering to take advantage of the lower cost and other member benefits. Coffee, pastries and lunch are included in the registration fee.
