Prior to its April 17 meeting, Southgate City Council held a public hearing on this year’s municipal road aid and streets improvement program.

According to council member Paul Melville, the plan for this year’s street improvement project involves four streets. These include Electric Avenue from Walnut Street to Temple Place, Ridgeway Avenue (on the west side) to the VFW and the top of Beech Road to North Street.

Notice was sent to property owners on those streets, but there were no public comments at the hearing. The project was awarded to Riegler Contracting with a winning bid of $503,242.

Melville said the hope is to start on the project next week, weather permitting.

The hearing was followed by a short council meeting. Police Chief John Christmann shared the news that his department earned a perfect score for the Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) Safety and Liability Review. KLC conducts safety reviews as part of its insurance program for cities.
